Rocky DEM

Rocky refers to 3D discrete element modeling (DEM) software which can simulate the motion and effect of a large number of small particles, their interactions with each other and boundary surfaces. Rocky DEM includes non-spherical particle simulation, boundary wear and breakage modeling. Rocky DEM utilises multi-GPU solving technologies to reduce computational effort required for large simulations.

Rocky DEM and ANSYS® Coupling

Rocky DEM supports complete Multiphysics integration with the ANSYS® Workbench environment, allowing engineers to transfer results seamlessly between ANSYS® Mechanical/CFD and Rocky. Applications include:

  • Slurry mills
  • Fluidised beds

In addition, Rocky's GPU and Multi-GPU processing combined with ANSYS® Mechanical/CFD’s CPU parallelisation capabilities, ensures that there is no resource competition between the two tools. With this new approach, large and complex multiphase problems can now be solved effectively.

GPU configuration and architecture

ROCKY can utilise two or more Graphic Processing Units (GPUs) to process your simulations.

The following graphics cards has been tested and verified:

  • GPU computing cards: Tesla K40, Tesla K80, Tesla P100 and Tesla V100
  • GPU gaming cards: GTX 980, GTX 1080, Titan, Titan Black, Titan Z, and Quadro GP100
